Polkadot Sweetheart

This is my favourite summer dress! I'm a firm believer that you can never have too many polkadot fabrics in a wardrobe, and this red and white number is no exception.

My makeup of the day includes MAC's Vegas Volt lipstick, which is the sweetest coral colour that I own. I use Lush's Dark Pink Colour Supplement as blush.

Birthday Treats!

I was fortunate enough to be treated to fancy cake and macarons for my 20th birthday this past weekend! I put on my fanciest dress (and unfortunately didn't take pictures of myself) and made the trip with my sweetheart to La Bamboche, a pretty little patisserie just south of Eglinton.

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a sucker for macarons. I love their decadency, their soft and still somehow crispy texture, their sweet little pastel colours, and all of the amazing and innovative flavours utilized by various patisseries. I've spent years trying to perfect the technique in my own baking, as well as frequently searching for macarons in any city I happen to be in. I've had the opportunity to try out macarons in Quebec City, Edmonton, Kelowna, as well as in many different shops in my current city, Toronto.

The La Bamboche location near Eglinton is on the first floor of a brick building and has a pretty patio with a few tables just outside. The ladies I spoke to were very knowledgeable and patient with my questions . We went fairly late in the evening so there weren't a lot of items to look at, but I was able to pick out a few items to take home and try.

This pretty little mermaid green macaron is Strawberry Champagne and it was easily my favourite. Additionally, I tried the Yuzu, Lavender, Mystery, and the Green Tea and Mango flavours. The shop clearly had a bit of Japanese influence to their french baking which was reflected in the flavours offered.

I also picked up a small, individual cake that I believe was guava and mango flavoured.

My big treat was a beautiful cake featuring gold flakes and tiny macarons, and was flavoured with Cassis. Cassis is a liqueur made from black currents, so the cake had a bit of a tart taste to it. It had cassis ganache, cassis chocolate and cassis flavoured macarons.

There are a few other places I hope to try macarons from, but when I've satisfied my curiousity about a few other shops, I would definitely return to La Bamboche for a few more pastel treats.

Le Voyage du Ballon Rouge

When I was a chronically sad and hopelessly romantic fifteen year old, I went to go see The Flight of the Red Balloon at The Plaza, which is a small theatre built in the 1930s located in downtown Calgary. Before the show started, short films created by students at ACAD appeared on the screen. I went alone and sat near the back like I often do when I see movies.

Now, 4 years later, I vividly remember some scenes from the film. One that particularly stands out is a scene where the nanny is in a park with the boy and she's wearing layered black down to the ground. For whatever reason, this is the image that comes to mind when I think about the film now. Recently though, I decided to rewatch it and, strangely enough, that scene doesn't exist. There's a scene of her in the park, but her outfit is incredibly different than what I've been remembering for the past 4 years. Still though, that memory is what inspired my most recent OotD.

Lookin' for boys

Valentines day is my second favourite holiday. I can't get enough of red and pink coordinations, flowers and cinnamon candy hearts. I've been working for Lush for the last few months and to celebrate our Valentines Day products, I had the opportunity to wear red and pink with my work clothes. I was ecstatic because I own a lot more red and pink than I would care to admit.

On my last shift before Valentines Day, I decided to pull out one of my favourite dresses and wear sort of a summery bratty ensemble. My valentine was sweet enough to snap a few shots of me before I left for work.

I'm a bit fan of eyeball detailing. I'm building up my eyeball accessory collection. This outfit features an eyeball hairbow and ouija board necklace.

Remembering Summer

This summer I had the opportunity to go to Fan Expo in Toronto. I spent 2 days buying artwork and accessories and being completely in awe over the elaborate costumes people were wearing. I decided to pull out some lolita garb for the occasion.

I wore this outfit on the second day of Fan Expo. My boyfriend was sweet enough to snap a few shots of me on the way to and inside of the building. I had dozens of people coming to me asking me for pictures, which actually isn't a new experience for me when I'm wearing lolita. I'll usually get at least one person on the street asking to take my picture when I go all out which is really sweet.

I wore this outfit on the first day of Fan Expo but I didn't think to ask my boyfriend to bring his camera, so he took this shot on his phone. I had a chance to meet the man who played Barbara's brother in George Romero's Night of the Living Dead and he signed a picture of the scene for me and wrote, "They're coming for you, Raegan" on it. I'm still swooning over it! He was such a sweetheart.

I'm sorry that I never tried very hard

I moved into a new apartment a few weeks ago and the new space and scenery has me feeling pretty inspired. I'm surrounded by parks and trees and gardens and little shops and the whole area has me feeling sweet and wonderful.

I got the urge to cut my bangs and I'm very glad I did. I don't know that they're all that flattering on my face, but honestly, I don't mind. I cut my bangs in the bathroom and tried to do pincurls for the first time since I cut my hair short. I need to work out the kinks a bit and figure out what works best, but I think it's something that I'll be doing a lot more in the future, especially when I get better at it.

This outfit was fall-inspired. My favourite things to wear in autumn are florals and mustard, especially when the leaves are turning colour and the days are becoming gloomy. Nothing else makes me feel so sweet and sad as a good fall-inspired outfit and listening to my favourite dreamy music. Autumn is my absolute favourite time of the year, and I'm very glad that I have the opportunity to be in such a beautiful area while the season changes.

Autumn is coming!

Fall is absolutely my favourite season. I never feel happier than when the leaves are turning colour, when the weather is cool and I can indulge in my pretty cardigans and dresses in a way that I'm not necessarily able to in the summer season.

As silly as it is, I love to tell stories through the way I dress. When I get dressed, I coordinate around a plot (oftentimes what I'll be doing that specific day, but sometimes not), a mood and a tone. I love to think about how I'll feel in a certain outfit doing things like grocery shopping, sitting on a bus, or walking through campus. I love to feel overwhelmed by my environment. This specific outfit brought me to my campus to sit for hours on a cool, moody day to people watch after getting some life-related work done. The dress is, as I've been told, a late '70s vintage dress with an accordion style skirt and I certainly felt that it suited the moody day I ventured out in.
