Remembering Summer

This summer I had the opportunity to go to Fan Expo in Toronto. I spent 2 days buying artwork and accessories and being completely in awe over the elaborate costumes people were wearing. I decided to pull out some lolita garb for the occasion.

I wore this outfit on the second day of Fan Expo. My boyfriend was sweet enough to snap a few shots of me on the way to and inside of the building. I had dozens of people coming to me asking me for pictures, which actually isn't a new experience for me when I'm wearing lolita. I'll usually get at least one person on the street asking to take my picture when I go all out which is really sweet.

I wore this outfit on the first day of Fan Expo but I didn't think to ask my boyfriend to bring his camera, so he took this shot on his phone. I had a chance to meet the man who played Barbara's brother in George Romero's Night of the Living Dead and he signed a picture of the scene for me and wrote, "They're coming for you, Raegan" on it. I'm still swooning over it! He was such a sweetheart.

I'm sorry that I never tried very hard

I moved into a new apartment a few weeks ago and the new space and scenery has me feeling pretty inspired. I'm surrounded by parks and trees and gardens and little shops and the whole area has me feeling sweet and wonderful.

I got the urge to cut my bangs and I'm very glad I did. I don't know that they're all that flattering on my face, but honestly, I don't mind. I cut my bangs in the bathroom and tried to do pincurls for the first time since I cut my hair short. I need to work out the kinks a bit and figure out what works best, but I think it's something that I'll be doing a lot more in the future, especially when I get better at it.

This outfit was fall-inspired. My favourite things to wear in autumn are florals and mustard, especially when the leaves are turning colour and the days are becoming gloomy. Nothing else makes me feel so sweet and sad as a good fall-inspired outfit and listening to my favourite dreamy music. Autumn is my absolute favourite time of the year, and I'm very glad that I have the opportunity to be in such a beautiful area while the season changes.

Autumn is coming!

Fall is absolutely my favourite season. I never feel happier than when the leaves are turning colour, when the weather is cool and I can indulge in my pretty cardigans and dresses in a way that I'm not necessarily able to in the summer season.

As silly as it is, I love to tell stories through the way I dress. When I get dressed, I coordinate around a plot (oftentimes what I'll be doing that specific day, but sometimes not), a mood and a tone. I love to think about how I'll feel in a certain outfit doing things like grocery shopping, sitting on a bus, or walking through campus. I love to feel overwhelmed by my environment. This specific outfit brought me to my campus to sit for hours on a cool, moody day to people watch after getting some life-related work done. The dress is, as I've been told, a late '70s vintage dress with an accordion style skirt and I certainly felt that it suited the moody day I ventured out in.

Woodland Fairy

I get awfully romantic somedays, days where I want to make the trek to the lake not far from here and have a picnic and read a book, and that's where I found the inspiration for this particular outfit. I tend to dress around feelings, like the feeling of your feet in the water, the feeling of driving downtown with the windows open or the feeling of being in love. This makes my wardrobe a bit manic, since I buy things that make me feel more than whether they fit into my current wardrobe, regardless of their practicality.

I'm leaving home to go back to Toronto for school. One thing I'll miss most about the prairies is how overwhelming and inspiring nature is. Since I started developing my own style, only two or three years ago, I've found that woodsy and whimsy influences find their way into my wardrobe, whether intentionally or not.

Dream Dress

I received this dress in the mail just recently and I am absolutely in love with it. I own it in two other colours, and I'm hoping to own it in a few more. Like I said, I absolutely adore it! It has a '50s flare skirt that my petticoat fits perfectly underneath, a sweet bow at the bust, fabric-covered buttons and a matching belt. If I could have a closet-full of only this dress, I would!

I wanted to wear this dress just once before I send it to my sweetheart in Toronto. I've been strategically packing and mailing away my new clothes so I'll be motivated to unpack when I return to Toronto for school, and this dress will soon be joining the others that I've already sent.

Snow White

When I was a little girl, people would often call me Snow White because I was a fair-skinned and rosy-cheeked toddler. Coincidentally, Snow White also happened to be a favourite story of mine as a child. My mother would read it to me out of a book of fairytales that had been her mother's.

Needless to say, my fascination with fairytales never left me and I often find myself becoming inspired by them. When I bought this skirt on prototypedesign's etsy shop, I was mentally planning a Snow White inspired outfit. I gathered together my resources to attempt to physically put together what I had been imagining, and this is a rough draft of it, at the very least.
